Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) is a one year advanced level examination body established to offer direct entry examination services to candidates and also prepare the candidates to enter the second year (200 level) of degree programmes in Nigerian universities and some foreign institutions.
It is accepted as an alternative to traditional Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and is accepted by the participating universities. The program also helps students to have the required academic background and modern skills to perform excellently in their areas of interest.
Advantages of JUPEB Programme
The following are the advantages of Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) program:
1. Direct Entry Admission
Passing JUPEB candidates have the benefit of a direct entry into the second year (200 level) of the degree programme of their choice in any of the participating university, without going through the first year.
2. UTME Not Required
As opposed to the regular means of entry, JUPEB will not involve the candidates in participating in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nor does it necessitate the candidates to achieve its cut off points.
3. Universal-level Recognition
JUPEB is recognized in more than 20 Nigerian universities (e.g. University of Lagos, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University) and a few universities abroad.
4. Excellent Preparation to the University
JUPEB has a strong academic background thus the students are well prepared to face challenges of the university education.
5. Enhanced Probabilities of Admission
JUPEB improves the chances of making it through competitive courses, since it is not congested like admissions that rely on UTME.
JUPEB Programme requirement
At least 5 credits in the core subjects (which include English and Mathematics) in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB. The credits have to be acquired not later than two sittings.
