If JAMB has offered you admission, the offer is not yours until you accept it on CAPS — and the clock is already running. For the 2026 admission exercise, JAMB gave candidates a four-week window to accept an approved offer, and public universities must conclude their admissions by Saturday, 31 October 2026 — three days from now. An offer you leave unanswered can be deleted, and JAMB has warned that candidates who fail to accept may be placed in a “refusal to accept” category and become ineligible for admission again in the exercise.
This guide covers only the acceptance step: how to accept (or reject) an offer on the JAMB eFacility portal, how to do it by SMS, the deadline for your type of institution, and what to do if something goes wrong. If you have not checked whether you have an offer yet, start with our guide on how to check your JAMB admission status on CAPS, then come back here.
Key takeaways
- Accepting or rejecting an offer on CAPS is free. Anyone asking you to pay to “accept your admission” is running a scam.
- There are two ways to respond: on the eFacility portal (efacility.jamb.gov.ng) or by SMS — send ACCEPT or REJECT to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number you registered with JAMB.
- You have four weeks from when your offer is approved to respond. Public universities close admissions 31 October 2026; private universities 30 November 2026; polytechnics and colleges of education 31 December 2026.
- Accepting is final: once you accept, no other institution can consider you in this cycle. Rejecting an offer also cannot be undone.
- After accepting, print your JAMB admission letter from eFacility — your school will ask for it at clearance, and NYSC will need it later.
Before you accept: be sure the offer is the one you want
CAPS is the Central Admissions Processing System inside JAMB’s eFacility portal. It is the only place where an admission offer is officially made and answered. An admission list on your school’s notice board or school portal is not final until the same offer appears on your CAPS page — that is the version JAMB recognises.
Before you click anything, read the offer carefully: the institution, the course, and the programme type. Candidates are sometimes offered a different course from the one they applied for; that kind of offer usually arrives under the Transfer Approval tab and has to be answered there first. If the institution and course are what you want, accept promptly. If they are not, understand that rejecting closes that offer permanently — the slot goes to another candidate.
How to accept admission on JAMB CAPS (step by step)
- Go to the JAMB eFacility portal: efacility.jamb.gov.ng. There is no separate “CAPS website” — CAPS lives inside eFacility.
- Log in with the email address and password you used to create your JAMB profile. Do not log in with your registration number; if you have forgotten the password, use the “Forgot Password” link on the login page.
- On your dashboard, click Check Admission Status.
- Select your exam year and enter your JAMB registration number, then click Access my CAPS.
- On the CAPS page, click Admission Status in the left-hand menu. On a phone: if you only see a welcome page and no menu, open the portal in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu and tick Desktop site, then reload — CAPS was built for the desktop layout, and the menu often hides on mobile view.
- Your offer will be displayed with the institution and course, and two buttons: Accept and Reject. (If there are no buttons, you do not have a final offer yet — see the problems section below.)
- Click Accept and confirm. To turn the offer down, click Reject instead and confirm.
- Log out, log back in, and open your Admission Status again to confirm it now shows the admission as accepted. Take a screenshot of the confirmation page and keep it.
From our editorial team: In the final days before a deadline the eFacility portal slows down noticeably as thousands of candidates log in at once. If the page times out, try early in the morning or late at night rather than repeatedly refreshing at midday.
How to accept (or reject) by SMS
No internet, no problem: JAMB allows you to respond to an offer by text message. This only works from the phone number registered with JAMB — the number on your JAMB profile.
- Use the SIM card registered with JAMB and make sure the line has some airtime on it.
- Send ACCEPT as an SMS to 55019 or 66019 to accept the offer. To reject it, send REJECT to the same numbers.
- Wait for the response message from JAMB confirming your action.
- Afterwards, log in to CAPS on the eFacility portal at the first opportunity and confirm that your Admission Status reflects your choice. The portal record is the one that counts.
The SMS route answers the offer that is currently on your CAPS. It does not let you choose between institutions, and you should still verify the result on the portal — if the confirmation does not arrive or your status does not change, use the portal method above or visit a JAMB-accredited CBT centre for help.
2026 admission deadlines: know your date
JAMB and the heads of tertiary institutions fixed these closing dates at the 2026 Policy Meeting. Your four-week acceptance window runs inside them — if your institution’s closing date arrives first, that date wins.
| Institution type | 2026 admission deadline |
|---|---|
| Public universities (federal and state) | 31 October 2026 |
| Private universities | 30 November 2026 |
| Polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education | 31 December 2026 |
| Candidate acceptance window (all institutions) | 4 weeks from when the offer is approved |
After its deadline passes, an institution no longer has access to its candidates on CAPS for this session — which is why schools rush to conclude lists in the final days, and why an offer can appear on your CAPS at any moment this week.
What happens if you don’t accept in time
Do not treat the four weeks as spare time. Under the rules JAMB announced for the 2026 exercise:
- The institution can ask for your unaccepted admission to be deleted, freeing the slot for another candidate.
- You may be placed under JAMB’s “refusal to accept” category, which the board said is punishable by ineligibility to be admitted again in the exercise.
- Once your institution’s closing date passes, there is no CAPS route left for that school to admit you this session, however strong your scores are.
Note also that when CAPS suffered an outage earlier in this admission season, JAMB restored the platform but did not move the 31 October deadline. Do not count on an extension: if you have an offer from a public university, the safe move is to accept it today.
What to do after you accept
Accepting on CAPS secures the admission; it does not finish your registration. Work through these next steps promptly.
1. Print your JAMB admission letter
- Log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng and click Print Admission Letter.
- A confirmation page displays your Transaction ID (shown in bold red). Keep it — you need it if a payment query comes up.
- Pay the printing fee through the portal’s payment gateway. The fee is widely reported as ₦1,000 plus a ₦100 service charge — ₦1,100 in total. eFacility displays the exact amount before you pay, so pay only what the portal shows.
- After payment, enter your exam year and registration number, then download the letter.
- Print at least two copies — the candidate’s copy and the institution’s copy — and save the PDF on your phone.
2. Confirm your name on the matriculation list
Once your institution has registered you, check that your name appears on JAMB’s matriculation list at efacility.jamb.gov.ng/CheckMatriculationList (select your exam year and enter your registration number). If you were admitted but your name never appears, raise it with your school’s admission office first. Admission granted outside CAPS is not recognised by JAMB.
3. Follow your school’s clearance instructions
Your institution will publish its own acceptance fee, screening and clearance schedule. Take your printed admission letter, O’level result(s), UTME result slip and other listed documents. Deadlines for school fees and clearance are set by the school, not JAMB, and they can be just as strict.
From our editorial team: Print the admission letter the same week you accept, even if your school’s clearance is weeks away. Candidates who leave printing until the clearance rush end up queueing at business centres when the portal is at its slowest.
Common problems — and what to do
“My school offered me admission, but CAPS shows nothing”
This is the most common complaint, and it usually means the institution has announced your name but has not finished processing or uploading your admission on CAPS. Only the CAPS offer counts, so keep checking daily — offers are uploaded in batches. If your school’s deadline is close and CAPS still shows nothing, contact the school’s admission office directly and ask whether your admission has been forwarded on CAPS. Do not pay anyone who promises to “upload” your admission for you; only the institution and JAMB can do that.
“There is no Accept button on my CAPS”
Three usual causes. First, the mobile view hides the menu — switch Chrome to Desktop site or use a computer. Second, your status may still read “Admission in Progress”, which means the institution has recommended you and JAMB is still finalising; there is nothing to accept until it becomes a full offer. Third, the offer may be sitting under Transfer Approval because the course differs from your original choice — respond to it there.
“I can’t use the SMS option — my phone number has changed”
The SMS method only works from the number on your JAMB profile, because that is how JAMB identifies you. If you have lost that SIM, first try to retrieve the line from your network provider — that is the fastest fix. If you cannot recover it, use the portal method to accept instead; the SMS route is a convenience, not the only way. For corrections to the phone number on your JAMB profile, visit a JAMB office or a JAMB-accredited CBT centre with your registration details — profile corrections are not done by third-party agents.
“My status says ‘Not Admitted’ even though I met the cut-off”
Meeting a cut-off mark makes you eligible; it does not itself create an offer. Check three things: that your O’level result is uploaded (an institution cannot process your admission on CAPS without it — upload it at an accredited CBT centre if missing), that you are checking the correct exam year, and that there is no pending Transfer Approval waiting for your response.
From our editorial team: The single most common reason we see for a “missing” admission is an O’level result that was never uploaded to CAPS. Before panicking about your status, confirm the upload — it takes minutes to check on your CAPS profile.
Frequently asked questions
Is accepting admission on JAMB CAPS free?
Yes. Checking your status, accepting and rejecting an offer on CAPS all cost nothing, and the SMS option only uses your normal airtime. The first thing you pay for is printing the admission letter afterwards.
How long do I have to accept my admission?
Four weeks from when your offer is approved. Your institution’s closing date also applies — 31 October 2026 for public universities, 30 November 2026 for private universities, and 31 December 2026 for polytechnics and colleges of education — so whichever deadline comes first is your real deadline.
Can I accept my admission by SMS without internet?
Yes. Send ACCEPT to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number registered with JAMB (send REJECT to turn the offer down). Afterwards, log in to CAPS when you can and confirm your status shows the response.
What happens if I reject an admission offer?
That offer is closed and cannot be retrieved — the institution can give the slot to another candidate. Think carefully before rejecting, especially this late in the exercise: JAMB has warned that refusing approved admissions may place a candidate in its “refusal to accept” category. If you are rejecting because of the course offered, first check whether a Transfer Approval or a change of course on eFacility serves you better.
Can I change my mind after accepting?
There is no undo button on CAPS, and an acceptance should be treated as final: once you accept, other institutions can no longer consider you in this cycle. Only accept an institution and course you are genuinely ready to attend.
I accepted, but I can’t print my admission letter. What should I do?
The letter only becomes available after your acceptance is recorded, so first re-open your Admission Status and confirm it shows as accepted. If you paid but the letter will not print, check the payment status under “My Payments” in eFacility using your Transaction ID, then try again outside peak hours. If it still fails, visit a JAMB-accredited CBT centre with your Transaction ID and registration number.
